Michael Mullowney, MD, has practiced with the Alaska Hospitalist Group (TAHG) since 2003 and provided high level care to adult patients in diverse clinical settings.
As a hospitalist with the group for many years, he has provided care in icu settings, general medical wards, snf and long-term acute care settings (LTAC). Michael Mullowney, MD’s responsibilities at Central Peninsula Hospital spanned admission and daily management, ICU care, and discharge to alternative placement and home settings. He also directed the hospitalist group there for over a decade, chaired the medicine department and was medical director for the local SNF.
Dr. Mullowney also guided rehabilitation unit activities at the Alaska Regional Hospital and consulted on various surgical cases, orthopedic, general, spine and neurosurgical. He held responsibilities as the Medicine Department chairperson and oversaw a full spectrum of care.
He also worked for over decade at Providence Alaska Medical Center and attending on general medical wards as well as ICU.
Across his time with TAHG, he has volunteered in locations such as Peru and Cambodia and had the opportunity to travel across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Volunteer projects included lecturing as well as mentoring local physicians in hospital based settings.
While attending medical school, Dr. Mullowney volunteered with La Clinica del Pueblo, which provides public health services in Adams Morgan, Washington DC and volunteered in Bolivia providing care at a high altitude hospital and assisting with vaccination initiatives a few hours outside of Cochabamba.
Dr. Michael Mullowney is a Latin dance enthusiast who regularly attends congresses spanning the globe. Some favorite dancing destinations are SE Asia including KL, Hanoi, Bangkok, Bali and Singapore. Japan is also a favorite destination especially for live music in small venues.
Having studied architectural design in-depth, he saw an award winning residential construction project in downtown Anchorage through to successful completion as well as a family estate in Maui. Inspiration is modern, industrial, brutalist and mid century. Goal of design is well thought out space that is at once functional and inspiring.
Dr Mullowney is also an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer. He has dove many iconic sites throughout the world. The book "Fifty Fives Before You Die" has been a particular inspiration. Favorite sites include Galapagos, Raja Ampat, Komodo, Maumere, Papua New Guinea and Anilao.
Dr Mullowney now lives with family in Maui and enjoys kite surfing and paragliding. Future sporting goals include learning to kite foil; power paraglide; and learning thermaling in Columbia and India.
